Okay, so something happened in Newbury. A statue of Paddington Bear got damaged. This statue sits on Northbrook Street.

Police reported the damage. It seems a piece broke off, and someone then stole the broken piece. This happened after 2 AM on Sunday.

Two guys got arrested; Daniel Heath and William Lawrence are their names. They’re both 22 years old, and police charged them with criminal damage.

The court will hear their case, which is set for March 25. Both men are out on bail for now, and they have specific conditions to follow.

The police found the stolen piece, which broke off the statue. The statue was new, unveiled last October.

Inspector Alan Hawkett spoke about it, saying Paddington is very loved. They worked hard to find the statue and the vandals.

He’s happy they caught people, and the police will keep the statue safe. They’ll help get it fixed and back in its spot. Paddington is even visiting the police station; he’ll get a marmalade sandwich while there.

Lee Dillon is a local MP who said it’s sad the statue was damaged. Paddington makes people happy, and he took a family picture with it recently. This damage is very disappointing to many.
