Andrei Matei stole from ATMs. He lived in Crumpsall, Manchester and used a special tool to break them open. Someone helped him do this.

The 35-year-old damaged many ATMs all over the UK. He targeted places like Devizes and Salisbury, Wiltshire.

He caused more than £30,000 in damage. West Yorkshire Police started looking into it. Then, another unit took over and checked CCTV from many spots.

Matei got arrested in Nottinghamshire in September 2023. He admitted to 483 thefts and confessed to the damage.

He got a 27-month jail sentence at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday, February 26. After jail, he will go back to Romania.

He targeted ATMs in Wiltshire. A Texaco in Salisbury was hit August 14, 2023, and an Esso in Devizes was hit August 15, 2023. A Pippin station in Salisbury was also hit that day.

He also broke into ATMs nearby between August 14 and 15. He hit Bath, Widcombe, and Radstock in Bristol.

He struck other places across the country. For instance, Shell in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, on August 9, 2023, and East Bowling Shell in Bradford that same day. More places were hit in West Yorkshire, including BP on Pudsey Road, Shell on Three Nuns, and Shell in Castleford.

He broke into a Spar in Wakefield and targeted a Best One in Nottingham. A BP in Abingdon also suffered damage, and Shell in Newbury, Berkshire, became a victim. He also hit a Texaco in North Weald, London.

Next, he stole from Shell in Stopsley, Bedfordshire. Finally, he damaged a BO Garage in Nottingham.
