A man, aged 53, got a suspended jail term for dealing with stolen items. These items were from moped thefts in Cambridge.

Detectives investigated many moped thefts. Over 300 mopeds got stolen in 2022, with a total value exceeding £450,000. These included bikes and electric scooters. Officers suspected a group of people committed these crimes.

Police searched Mark Bailey’s home in December 2022. He is 53 and lives on Nuttings Road. They found vehicles and a phone there. The phone held proof of his sales of stolen goods.

Mark Bailey admitted to handling stolen goods five times. He received his sentence on Wednesday, February 26. The court gave him 20 months, suspended for two years and he must also do 200 hours of unpaid work.

Bobby Bailey, 19, also lives on Nuttings Road. He admitted to stealing vehicles five times. He received a community order lasting two years, and also has to complete 160 hours unpaid work.

Kieran Roberts, 21, lives on Southwell Drive. He admitted to stealing a vehicle. The court ordered community service for one year. Kieran must do 75 hours of unpaid work too.

Liam Kilpatrick, 18, lives on Cottenham Road. He got an 18-month community order. He admitted to handling stolen goods, stole a vehicle, and caused damage.

Three boys, aged 15, 16, and 17, are awaiting their sentences. Their names remain private for legal reasons.

Police are happy to bring these offenders to justice, as moped thefts impacted Cambridge a lot. They want to reduce crime affecting communities, helping make safer neighborhoods.

To protect your moped or bike, use a disc lock on the front brake and employ a chain through the back wheel. Secure your bike to something solid if possible and also, use a cover because thieves often target certain models.
