McDonalds proposes a new restaurant with drive-through in Hove. The plan faces opposition and support due to location & impact.

The company says it is a big investment. They expect to create 120 jobs. These would be both full and part-time positions.
Two businesses currently use the site: Pavilion Batteries and PR Industrial. The location is near Hove Cemetery South. It was once a KAP used car showroom site. The McDonald’s would sit between Majestic Wines and Star Property Group. Existing buildings there would be torn down.
The drive-through will have a special lane to speed up service during delays. This keeps traffic moving well. McDonald’s wants to sell food and drinks there. People can eat indoors or take it away. Inside, there will be 79 seats.
The company states the project will boost the local economy. New jobs arise during building work, and more jobs appear when it opens.
The project includes parking for cars and bikes. They plan 42 car spaces, with three accessible bays. Two are “grill” overspill bays, and there will be two electric vehicle charging points. There are three spaces for motorcycles. They plan eight spaces for bicycles. Staff get bike lockers.
Someone against it said it’s near schools. They claim unhealthy food will hurt kids, saying they should learn healthy diets.
Another person opposing it mentioned traffic risks. They see issues with the nearby junction. Fire engines also need quick road access.
A person who supports it likes new jobs. They mention students needing work and note nearby flat developments. It is on an industrial site, so less noise impact. Another person supporting welcomes McDonald’s. They think it will be popular and say the area needs it.
