Trees planted in Stowmarket and Hadleigh commemorate Covid 19 victims and community strength during the pandemic.

The trees are cherry trees, actually. You can find them at Green’s Meadow in Stowmarket and in Beaumont Park, in Hadleigh. This planting happened just before Sunday’s Day of Reflection.
Council members from two districts planted them. They wanted to honor how strong communities were then. These districts are Babergh and Mid Suffolk.
One member, Tim Weller, talked about the pandemic’s early days. He mentioned the fear and uncertainty, and said they remember those who died. Covid-19 changed many lives a lot.
Tim also noted people who bravely helped others. They put aside their problems to help their neighbors during a really tough time.
Another member, Laura Smith, also spoke. She said every council tried to help its people. Council teams kept services going during the pandemic, ensuring things like trash pickup still happened.
The councils also aided the NHS, helping run vaccine sites and sharing important information with everyone. Plus, they supported food banks.
Laura praised the NHS and care home workers. She also thanked all key workers, recognizing volunteers and local groups too. These people showed true strength during the crisis.
Laura added that their thoughts are with everyone, including those still feeling the pandemic’s effects. It’s a lasting impact for some people.
