Two men face charges for theft and damage of a Paddington Bear statue taken from Newbury’s Northbrook Street.

Police arrested two men later that day. They suspected theft and damage. The men are both 22 years old. Actually, they came from West Yorkshire and Leicestershire.
Daniel Heath and William Lawrence face charges now. Heath lives in West Yorkshire. Lawrence lives in Leicestershire. They are charged with criminal damage. Both got conditional bail on Monday. They must appear in court on March 25.
The police spokesperson corrected the earlier report. The men are not from Basingstoke. Inspector Alan Hawkett called the statue beloved. He wants Paddington safely back on Northbrook Street.
Paddington is now at the police station. He needs a marmalade sandwich! StudioCanal put the statue there back in October. It was part of a “Paddington Visits” trail, with sculptures all over the UK.
The statue promoted the third Paddington movie. The movie is “Paddington in Peru.” It premiered on November 8. It follows Paddington searching for his missing aunt, and the Brown family goes with him to Peru’s jungles.
