Awards given to cadets and service members at Merchant Adventurers’ Hall. Recipients recognized for dedication and service.

The awards started in the 1980s. They honored HMS York sailors back then, but now recognize all three services and cadet forces. It is the 26th year for these awards.
Two cadets got awards this year. One was from the Yorkshire Sea Cadets, the other from the Army Cadet Force.
Daniel Loader, a Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major, was honored for his dedication, leadership, and achievements.
Able Cadet Joshua Mullinger earned many qualifications. These included marine engineering, first aid, piping, and offshore sailing. Plus, he rowed.
Joshua volunteered for community events. People noted his commitment and dedication.
Rosanna Hetherington is an Officer Cadet with the Yorkshire Universities Royal Navy Unit. She was also an adult recipient.
Rosanna attended an international forum focused on peace, security, and prosperity. She met with defense units globally.
Laura Gatus, an Officer Cadet with the Universities Air Squadron (UAS), shows the value of “Service before Self.” She does all training activities and volunteers for the UAS and the community.
Samuel Jansen and Bradley Murray, from the Royal Yorkshire Regiment, represented their regiment. They served with dedication, with Samuel in the 4th Battalion and Bradley in the 1st Battalion.
Private Samuel Jansen went on two overseas exercises, one in Germany and the other in Croatia. He helped his Battalion win a medal after ten years.
People describe Private Bradley Murray as an asset who helps his Platoon and Company. He also brings great value to his Battalion and is seen as a model Yorkshire soldier.
Sergeant Pete Jones represented RAF Fylingdales. He was honored for his teamwork and work ethic, which improved morale and helped the force.
Pete worked on a crucial mission, operating 24/7, all year. It defended the UK, US, and NATO in space.
Martin Vander Weyer, with the Company of Merchant Adventurers, spoke at the event. He wants to keep close ties and values the armed forces, who aid communities and protect us.
Chief Petty Officer Michael Carmon could not attend, as he serves on HMS Dragon, which is currently sailing. He will get his tankard later, when the Governor will visit him.
