Leaders from three Suffolk councils reach an agreement on Council Tax proposals before the final decision.

Babergh and Ipswich councils considered raising taxes, while Mid Suffolk’s folks decided to keep things as they are. Babergh wants to raise tax by 2.99 percent, which is £5.63 yearly for a Band D home. Ipswich could see a 2.98 percent hike, amounting to £12.15 each year.
Mid Suffolk won’t change Council Tax; a Band D home costs £175.03 there. However, the councils will all raise rents. Rents on council and social homes are going up, with the increase being around 2.7 percent.
Ipswich approved their rent raise last month, resulting in a social rent increase of about £2.72 each week. Mid Suffolk’s social rent will rise £2.78 weekly, and affordable rents there will increase £4.05 weekly.
Babergh wants a £3.01 social rent increase, with affordable housing in Babergh rising £4.21 weekly. All the councils will continue their tax reduction schemes, ensuring that needy residents still get some help. These plans now go to full council meetings, where all councillors can offer input and even propose changes to the plans.
