Council considers charging contractors for traffic light adjustments during roadwork to raise extra funds.

The council wants to control traffic lights. They’ll charge when temporary lights require adjustments. Councilors will vote on these proposals next week. The council needs extra money.
They may also introduce a pet boarding license. This applies to homes without needed inspections. Bedbug fees could change, as a whole-house charge may replace room-by-room fees.
Other councils charge for traffic light switches. Midlothian currently uses a private firm. They propose a £150 fee for each switch during office hours. It costs £300 out of hours. Emergency switches cost £450, and less than five days’ notice also incurs this fee.
Delays to council staff also create extra fees. The flat rate covers one hour after the agreed time. Further delays cost £150 per hour, with charges that apply for additional hours.
The council’s report eliminates single-room bedbug fees because people were only treating one room. This saved money but spread the bugs. The new plan charges for whole-house treatment, including up to three bedrooms and a living room. Larger properties face higher fees.
