Midlothian might close two sports centers on weekends. Budget cuts of £10m force the council to act. Newtongrange Leisure Centre faces weekend closure. Gorebridge’s sports center may also close then.

Pool hours may shorten and pools might close earlier on weekends. Friday closures could be at 6pm. Saturday and Sunday could see 4pm closures.

The Gorebridge center may change a lot. Plans suggest a new community hub is likely. The library and meeting rooms could move there. Only sports will stop on weekends.

Staff will move to other centers, filling open jobs. Some staff positions will not be refilled. The council hopes to save money on utilities. They still need to calculate these savings.

Some people cannot use their closest center, but other options exist in Midlothian.

After-school club discounts may decrease, and building cleaning hours face cuts too. Weekend cleaning might stop, and summer school cleaning reductions may occur.

The council looks to make money in new ways. They might offer their own after-school care. This service would run year-round for parents.

They will check children and youth services too. Contracted family learning could shrink down and there could be therapeutic service reductions.

The education roles could change a lot. Staff numbers might go down in many areas.

Fewer staff impact service quality. Schools may not get as much support.

Councilors meet to discuss these ideas on Tuesday. A group created these plans for approval.
