Wiltshire Council approves Wessex Care’s plan to refurbish Milford Manor, enhancing resident comfort and restoring its original design.

Wiltshire Council approved the plan on January 20. Jodie Airey, Wessex Care’s operations director, says the project is very exciting. It will restore the building’s former beauty and make it more suitable for residents.
The Milford Area Preservation Group supports the plan, stating that it improves an iconic building and removes awkward additions. The changes will match the original Edwardian design.
Work starts after residents move to Castle View, another Wessex Care nursing home located on Old Castle Road. The current wing has issues, having been built in 1988.
It lacks en-suite bathrooms in each room, which the Care Quality Commission suggests. Wessex Care said the wing is hard to adapt.
The new building will have 30 bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The care wing will have a brand-new elevator, and staff can then use wider hallways.
The old elevator shaft and other added walls in the manor house will disappear, returning the house to its original size. More communal spaces will become available for residents. New offices and better kitchens will get built for staff.
The council’s approval came with some requirements. Wessex Care must submit a construction method statement. Demolition can only occur at certain times, specifically on weekdays and Saturdays.
