Model railway enthusiasts showcase intricate displays at Oxford Town Hall, fascinating visitors of all ages.

Model trains fascinate people of all ages. A photo from 1988 shows this. Susie Barker took it at Oxford Town Hall. It was the Oxford Model Railway Club show.
Sophie Byles, Craig Garland, and Philip McMillan appear. They are with a model steam engine. Doug and Jim Turner built this model.
The engine is number 1003, “Gazelle.” It shows “LNER” for a railway company. The 1988 show was the 23rd annual event. It featured many displays and stands.
Abingdon Model Railway Club had a great display. It showed the Somerset to Dorset line. That display had twenty feet of track. Building it took five years of work. It used around 4,000 tiny sleepers under the rails.
Another favorite was a Cornish tin mine model. Robert Tivendale built it from scratch. He worked three years on the model.
Ron Russell seeks old photos. He wants two pictures of Real St George. It’s an Oxford football team from the 70s. He and his sons are in them. His email is Ronandsan@aol.com.
