Mohamed Samak says he did not murder Joanne Samak. He claims she repeatedly stabbed herself. He found her on their bed in Droitwich Spa on July 1st of last year. She had a knife in her stomach, he said.

Samak said his wife had mental health and alcohol issues. The prosecution alleges he killed her because he wanted another woman and had money problems. This murder trial is at Worcester Crown Court.

Police interviewed Samak on July 3rd, after arresting him for murder. They told him his wife said she did not love him and wished she could divorce him, according to a friend.

Samak got upset when he heard this, saying she never told him this and he wished she had told him her feelings. He said he gives his own feelings openly. He said this was the first time he’d heard it and that he left his career and family for her.

She said she loved him, he told police, and that she had no problems. Police questioned him about his story, noting that at first, he said he found her dead, but later, he said he saw her stabbing herself. He used to play hockey for Egypt and also coached hockey.

Police said a neighbor heard a loud scream lasting seven to ten seconds around 3 AM. They asked why he first said he heard no noise. Samak said he was scared and frightened and did not mean to lie to them. He said he feared the situation.

Police asked why it took over an hour to call 999. They asked if he tried to cover up what happened, but he responded that he tried to help her and stop her. He said he did not do it to her and he was in a very difficult situation.

Samak said he stopped thinking clearly in that moment, saying everything went so quickly. He denies they argued, lost control, or hurt her. He also says they had no money problems. He told police he would never cheat on his wife.

However, he spoke to another woman and even met with her in London. The trial heard he called a debt advice service and worried about paying his bills. Joanne Samak sent him a message in December 2023, apologizing for nagging him, and reminding him to send her money.

Police analyzed his phone records, showing searches for night jobs, including hotel, retail, and delivery driver positions. The trial is still ongoing.
