Mohamed Samak, age 42, taught at Malvern College. He said he woke up around 3 AM last July 1st. He saw his wife, Joanne Samak, 49, stabbing herself. This happened at their Droitwich Spa home.

Prosecutors think Samak killed his wife. He had financial issues. Courts heard their marriage had problems too and they even slept in separate bedrooms. Samak missed the “romance” in their relationship.

Samak waited over an hour to call for help. Joanne had six stab wounds, one to her heart and abdomen. He stated he panicked after the incident and did not know what number to call.

Samak admitted he did not do proper CPR, despite knowing how from his job and lifeguard role. He had a first aid kit in his bedroom. He denies murdering his wife Joanne.

Samak claims she had mental health issues and problems with alcohol. He alleges she took her own life, but the prosecution does not believe him.

The prosecutor stated Samak lied about his wife’s alcohol use, thinking this supports Samak’s story claiming she caused her own wounds. However, a pathologist found her liver showed no long-term alcohol abuse.

Friends said she enjoyed a drink but wasn’t a drunk. The prosecutor thinks Samak is trying to assassinate her character to support his lying account, but Samak replied that this is not true.

Samak said her alcohol use increased after Covid and he shared his concerns with her brother. However, the prosecution claims he wanted her to die and did not call for help right away to ensure this.

The prosecutor said he thrust the knife into her body, claiming this shows intent. Samak insists he did not kill his wife, repeating that Jo stabbed herself. The trial is still ongoing in court now.
