Benefit claims in Moray rose 13% this January, with notable increases among young adults and over-50s post holidays.

More young adults (18-24) filed claims too. Their claims rose 14 percent, adding 30 people. Now 245 young people are claiming benefits. The biggest increase was for people over 50. Their claims jumped 16 percent, adding 50 people. Now 300 over-50s are claiming benefits.
Moray West saw a similar trend. Claims rose 11 percent to 1,415 total. Over-50 claims increased 18 percent there. It added 55 people, totaling 360 claimants.
However, 18-24 claims only rose 5%. That’s from 215 to 225 claimants, much better news.
Aberdeenshire North had a smaller rise overall. Claims grew 3 percent, 45 more people. The total there is now 1,415 claimants. Interestingly, 18-24 claims went down there.
There were 30 fewer young claimants, an 11 percent drop. Their total is now 225. For over-50s, claims rose 14 percent, or 45 people. The total is now 370 older claimants there.
Scotland’s claims also increased overall. 108,760 people claimed, up four percent, or 3,875. Young adult claims saw a tiny rise. It went up one percent adding 225.
So, 18,665 people aged 18-24 are claiming. Over-50s claims rose nine percent, adding 2,045. That brings their total to 25,040 claimants throughout Scotland.
These benefit figures include both employed and unemployed people. Both are claiming some type of benefit.
