New pump installed after MP intervention protects New Earswick residents from flooding.

The pump controls the water level. Folks worried that the water would flood their homes. Mr. Charters helped them ask Yorkshire Water for action. Residents say flooding has been a problem for years. Jill and John Simpson live right by the stream. They’ve been there for eight years. They are happy now; they can sleep easier.
Their house is at risk when the beck overflows. It almost reached their back door once. Mr. Charters has contacted Yorkshire Water again. The company will reply and do more work there. One resident said they sent many letters before. They got no response from Yorkshire Water.
They pay their water bills on time. They just wanted a working pump. Barbara Boyce, a former Lord Mayor of York, thanked Mr. Charters. The pump stops water from flooding the land. It keeps water off the residents’ properties. It also controls flow further down the stream.
In 2021, Yorkshire Water removed the old pump. Since then, heavy rain caused worries. Mr. Charters raised this issue in Parliament. He also met with Yorkshire Water’s head. He is pleased they got a new pump now.
He hopes this inspires other communities who may also have problems with Yorkshire Water. Mr. Charters feels relieved that it’s resolved. Yorkshire Water said the pump work finished January 30th. The pumps now work fully.
These pumps protect the area from flooding. Teams might check them as a precaution. This is part of their usual upkeep.
