Mothers protest at a Greggs in Westwood Cross after staff told a breastfeeding mum to use the toilet to feed her baby.

This made the customer very upset, so she used social media. Other local mothers heard her story. They organized a protest in response. About eight mothers came to Greggs. Their children also joined the event. It took place on Saturday, February 22nd.
Greggs apologized to the customer affected. They stated that breastfeeding is allowed in its stores. The protest lasted around ninety minutes. Another mom, Lauren Skye Rose, organized it. The protestors gathered at the Westwood Cross branch.
Greggs gave the moms free baked treats. They received bottles of water as well. Westwood Cross gave them tote bags and breast pads. The regional manager liked the event and its message. The mothers wanted to show they can feed in public.
The law protects them. Greggs said this wasn’t their policy. Their staff gave the wrong instructions. They welcome breastfeeding in the shops. Greggs apologized to the affected mother. They will remind staff about breastfeeding laws.
Their spokesperson confirmed these points. They have contacted the customer directly. They seek to stop it from occurring again. The Equality Act protects breastfeeding women. Treating them unfairly can lead to sex discrimination. Asking them to leave is also illegal. Public places include shops, cafes, and transport.
