A murder investigation is underway in Dungannon following the death of a man in his sixties after a serious assault.

The man who died was likely a foreigner in his sixties, according to a report. He was found with serious injuries in a flat yesterday evening, Thursday.
A local Councillor, Deirdre Varsani, spoke about the event. She acknowledged the worry and upset felt within the community. She asked everyone to stick to the facts and allow emergency services time to speak.
She addressed rumors circulating on social media, emphasizing that spreading them does not help. It only increases fear and she pleaded for people to stick to basic facts, sharing only verifiable information, such as which areas are closed.
Repeating rumors causes trouble, she explained, citing instances on social media last night where incorrect names were shared, leading to further problems. She described such occurrences as extremely worrying.
Varsani understands people are nervous and urges them to rely on confirmed facts, waiting for official confirmation from emergency services. She also advises against spreading information about those involved or repeating specific incident details.
Police were notified of the seriousness of the situation early on; this limited information was shared prior to the official police statement. A detective mentioned the man’s serious injuries and that he was found in a flat, where he sadly died from his injuries.
Corrainey Park is currently closed as officers gather more information. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting reference number 1576 27/02/25.
