Stevie Wishart buys historic Greenland Fishery in King’s Lynn, planning to restore the 1608 building into a music space.

The house dates way back to 1608. A mayor named John Atkin built it. Now, a musician named Stevie Wishart bought it. She wants to bring it back to life. She’s fixing it up with help from a charity.
Stevie plans to make it a music space where musicians and composers can gather. It needs lots of work, and she is working with experts.
The house was for sale in 2023. It cost around £400,000. People used to visit on special days. You could see the paintings inside. Some kids even planted trees in the garden, creating a mini forest.
They got a grant to do it. It has a long and interesting history. Back in 1605, Atkin’s Mansion was built. It was owned by his family for years. Later, part became a pub. It was called “The Fisherman’s Arms”.
In 1796, they renamed it Greenland Fishery. Whaling was a big deal then. The town sent boats to Greenland. They hunted whales for oil.
Around 1900, it fell into disrepair. People even considered knocking it down. In 1912, someone named Edward Beloe saved it. He made it a museum. Beloe passed away in 1932.
Then in 1941, a bomb damaged the place. The museum closed during World War II. It was restored after the war. After 1945, two ladies moved in. They made a beautiful garden. They also used it as an office. In 1997, some restoration started to fix the wall paintings.
In 2023, they put it up for lease. Stevie is working hard to revive it now. We might hear music coming from there soon.
