A group in Nairn decorates the town. They are popular for their colorful displays. The group needs crafty folks to help with their next idea. They want knitted and crochet flowers, as this project aims to brighten the community.

Last year, they made 6500 knitted poppies. People loved the Remembrance display. Now, they have a new plan for the summer. They will put handmade flowers on panels, which will spell “Nairn Our Town.” They might make other displays with extra flowers.

These panels will go by the Rosebank school, facing the A96 road. Caroline Mackay leads the Yarnbombers and wants to make people smile. The Remembrance display went over very well.

Caroline was amazed by all the poppies. Now, they’re planning Easter postbox decorations, too, and they also have this flower idea. The Nairn Old Parish church gave them flowers, which helped the project start. They began making the letter “N” for Nairn.

They already have around 350 flowers. Caroline needs hundreds or even thousands more. You can drop off flowers at the Nairn Wool Shop. The Wool Shop helps a lot, as it is a central spot to drop off items. People can also buy wool there, and Caroline wants more people involved in the project.

The flower project will engage many folks, just like the Remembrance display. Caroline loves that part, as people enjoy being part of something big. Some people stay home now, which lets them feel involved. Even small efforts help a lot. Caroline started Yarnbombers during Covid, and the group is now well-known in Nairn.

They make wonderful displays for each season. People visit Nairn just to see them. A tour company from Invergordon wants to show them off; the displays might be part of a tour. This initiative grew quickly, and Caroline has a great team. They help her a lot, and she couldn’t do it without them. The team is amazing, she says. The Yarnbombers have a Facebook page, as well, which includes flower patterns.
