Government confirms £15m for the NRM expansion after a budget review. Project includes a new Central Hall.

The government had promised them £15 million. This money was for a big expansion project. The project includes a new Central Hall. It’s part of a larger plan for York.
The old government pledged the money earlier this year, but the new government reviewed all spending plans. They found a big budget problem. They considered cutting the museum’s funding.
The Deputy Prime Minister visited the museum recently. She confirmed the money is safe now! Local leaders had asked for this assurance. They worried about the museum’s plans.
The museum expansion is linked to a larger project. This project includes new homes and jobs. Everyone seems happy the funding is secure now. However, some people are not completely thrilled.
One council member thinks it’s sad. He said celebrating saved funding is strange. Another thinks the issue was confusing. Other projects in York still face funding uncertainty.
One example is the new Haxby Station. The government continues its reviews of these projects. The new hall should be done by 2027. It will feature railway history.
This includes how railways changed people’s lives. The museum also plans to update other areas. They want to be a top global museum.
