Halifax is set to get a new leisure centre with a pool after contracts are finalized for the £35m project.

The cost rose, originally at £28 million, leading the council to pause it for a year. They needed to revise the plans and costs. After revisions, they committed to going ahead.
A councilor asked about delays, saying construction should start in 2025. She wanted to know if there were more hold-ups and when the people of Halifax could expect the center.
The tender process started last July and was extended to get more interest, which ensured competitive tender submissions, the council stated. The contract is being finalized with the chosen bidder.
The new center will have many features including a six-lane pool with seating, a learning pool with viewing, a sports hall, and fitness suite. Studios, a cycling studio, play areas, and a cafe will also be available.
Some original plans were cut to save money, including a steam room and sauna. The Government gave £12.2 million, which helps fund the new Halifax Leisure Centre.
The old Halifax swimming pool closed during the pandemic. It was on Skircoat Road. The new plan includes a pool in the leisure center.
