The new Botley skate park should open soon, around mid-March. It’s near Matthew Arnold School, on Oxford’s west side. This park replaces the Botley Bowl. A fire closed the old bowl in 2009.

This skate park has a unique blended bowl, the UK’s first. It also includes a street section and mini ramp for skaters. The design suits all ages and skill levels, letting skaters improve.

Canvas, a skatepark expert, designed it. They talked to skaters and parents in the area.

Many groups helped fund the skate park project. Botley Sk8s raised money with local events. The Parish Council used its levy funds to help. The FCC Communities Foundation gave £100,000 via grants. The National Lottery gave £20,000. Cumnor Parish Council donated £10,000. Local businesses gave smaller donations.

The FCC helps community projects with landfill funds. Cheryl Raynor praised the community’s work. She hopes people enjoy the skate park for years to come.

Emily Smith said the council wants a community hub. This hub can host events and meet local needs.

The council and Canvas plan a grand opening event. It will happen on Saturday, June 7. Expect competitions, prizes, and family fun for everyone. The project took 15 years to complete.
