Ballynahonemore Orange Hall on Hamiltonsbawn Road will be replaced with a larger community venue including a new car park.
The new hall will include its own car park. They’re also improving access for everyone. The council approved everything. CT Lindsay Chartered Architect Ltd filed the plans. They did this for the Ballynahonemore association.
The hall is currently an Orange Hall. They want a replacement building. It will have parking too. They will also build a retaining wall.
They will lower the ground for easy access. The new hall entrance will be level with the path. The new hall will be twice the size. It will have much better facilities.
The old hall has a small footprint. The new building’s footprint is larger. Right now, the hall has a main room and kitchen. It also has male and female restrooms.
The new hall will have storage. A meeting room and boiler room are also planned. The existing hall has no parking. The new design has five parking spots. One spot is for people with mobility issues.
The new hall will better serve the community. Officials think the hall meets community needs. They feel the car park is appropriate. The new hall is bigger, but not too big. It won’t overwhelm the site.
The hall is on higher ground currently. Lowering ground levels will help with access. The building’s visual impact should decrease. The design reflects the current building’s style.
The new hall will use materials like the area’s other buildings. They are building a new vehicle access point. The Roads department didn’t object. People use the current hall often.
They meet monthly in winter. They gather more often during the summer. Various social events happen all year. A pensioners’ club meets weekly.
A band rehearses there. A darts team practices and plays matches. People can also rent the hall. The hall use will double.
