A big step occurred in a 50-year-old cold case. The “Baldock Woman” died in 1975. She walked barefoot on the A1 near Baldock. This town is in Hertfordshire.

Her identity was unknown for many years. Now, investigators released a possible likeness. People last saw her near the town walking without shoes before a car hit her. Her feet were clean, suggesting she was recently barefoot.

Locate International is a charity that investigates unsolved cases. Volunteers spoke to a couple who may have known the woman. A forensic artist created images using the information gathered.

The couple said she was French and aged 23 to 25. They believed her name was Anna or Odile. Investigators found a news article mentioning Odile Ledoux, dated November 25, 1972, in the Cambridge Evening News.

A spokesman wants people with information to come forward and speak up. They will keep investigating all leads. The woman stayed with the couple in the early 1970s. They said she often went to Stotfold Social Club, near Baldock, and worked in Henlow, Bedfordshire. Later, she studied in Cambridge.

The article said Odile Ledoux studied English at Cambridgeshire College, now Anglia Ruskin University. She lived on Sturton Street in Cambridge. The team thinks she lived near Paris, or might have lived there. She also had friends in Newquay, Cornwall then.

Mark Greenhalgh leads the charity and believes someone has a key clue that could help identify the “Baldock Woman.” He says time is running out; if alive, she would be in her late 60s or mid 70s. He urges people to come forward soon, as even a small clue can help and could change the investigation’s direction. Please, share any information.
