A New Quay nursery received a positive inspection just before Storm Darragh destroyed its building. They have reopened in a new location.

The community helped the nursery significantly by raising money after the storm damage. The storm ripped off the nursery’s roof on December 7th, leaving the original building too damaged to save. They moved to the New Quay Memorial Hall in January while planning to rebuild on the original site.
Inspectors visited the nursery on December 3rd, only four days before the storm. Estyn and Care Inspectorate Wales came and rated the nursery ‘good’ in all five categories, including well-being, care, and leadership.
The inspection report praised the staff for providing good care and support to children, helping them learn and develop well. It also highlighted how leaders ensure a safe, clean environment where every child has equal access to resources.
Inspectors suggested one improvement: teaching about other cultures. The nursery will create a plan to address this. Leaders have a clear vision for the nursery, helping the children learn and grow in an interesting and engaging environment.
Leaders care deeply for the children, creating a sense of belonging. Children are motivated to learn and try their best, and leaders talk to parents about their child’s progress.
Holly Beauchamp, who leads Cylch Meithrin Cei Newydd, felt devastated by the storm damage. She is very happy with the inspection report, thanks the staff for their hard work, and appreciates the community support through a difficult time. She also thanks the parents and children.
The Cylch reopened on January 7th and are using the Memorial Hall for now. They worked with the Hwb Cymunedol Cei Newydd trustees, who helped make the move possible.
