Hey, guess what’s happening in Newmarket? A new sign tries to stop speeding on Studlands Park. The residents’ association put it up, replacing an older fabric sign that had been there since 2018 on Hyperion Way.

Becky Lovell is part of the residents’ group. She thanked Caps Cases Ltd for paying for it. The sign tells drivers to slow down and reminds them that kids are playing nearby. It sits near a basketball court, making it a busy part of the neighborhood.

Becky designed the sign herself, and New Print printed it for them; both companies are located in Newmarket. Becky hopes it changes driver behavior since speeding is a long-standing problem there, as people use the area as a shortcut when Fordham Road gets too crowded.

Richard Allen is the chairman of the group. He thanked Becky for leading the project, as the ultimate goal is safer streets. They want to make drivers drive more carefully, and Richard said drivers should think about safety.

The new metal sign uses local Newmarket businesses. Before, the original sign came with new speed bumps. Richard thinks that made the estate safer. The group has existed for about ten years now, and they hope to get another sign soon facing the opposite direction.
