Plans approved to raise the roof of Arlington Court, Newmarket, creating two new one-bedroom apartments on a second story.

The building is Arlington Court in Newmarket, and Tom Lehane proposed it. The roof will be raised by 900mm.
These new flats will be one-bedroom apartments on a new second floor. The building is in a special area, the Newmarket Conservation Area.
A council officer said the change will be small, as modern buildings already surround it. Newmarket Town Council didn’t object, but they want changes to be done carefully since it used to be a chapel.
Two people were worried about the plan, mentioning light, parking, trash, and safety. The road people didn’t mind it, depending on parking and bike storage rules. One new parking space will be created since one new flat won’t have parking.
The plan included storage for ten bikes. The planners said it’s not a big change and won’t bother people living there. The plan got approved with eleven rules concerning bike storage and other things.
The conditions involved building times and resident support. There will also be parking and a resident flood response pack.
