New leisure centre approved with greener upgrades. Housing plans also get the go-ahead. Some plans were declined.

The original plan had permission under reference 21/0893. Now, they are tweaking the plans to better meet the project’s specific needs. A council meeting approved the project in September 2024. The leisure centre will be on the riverfront, and construction should take about 18 months.
The leisure pool will be modern and fun. It will feature a lazy river, slides, and play things. A teaching pool helps kids learn to swim. The centre includes modern changing rooms, a cafe, and a relaxing area. A fitness suite exists for workouts, and a large space hosts group activities and birthday parties.
The centre aims to be one of UK’s first net zero sites. Electricity will come via renewable sources, making it sustainable into the future.
Newport City Council approved another project too: the demolition of a utility room at 25 Caerphilly Road. They also plan to remove the rear garage section and the front porch.
The plan includes a new side extension and a front porch. These improvements will help the property, changing the building’s appearance.
An air source heat pump will be installed at 101 Rowan Way. A previous application was resubmitted for that, and now they have approved it. Another heat pump will be installed at 2 Veronica Close. This reflects a shift to greener energy solutions for homes.
The council partially approved an application in Caerleon concerning Orchard House. Seven supported living apartments are planned. Certain outbuildings will come down during the work, and a communal garden area with a pavilion is also in the plan. Changes feature solar panels and roofline edits.
A building on Cefn Road can be used for supported living, and the place could have up to four residents. A loft conversion got approved for 145 Stockton Road, and it includes a dormer facing the rear.
Not every proposal got the green light, though. The council said no to window glazing bars on Isca Road. Standards remain high for building design.
An office on Bridge Street will become an eight-bedroom house with multiple occupants. Section 106 approval is pending. This shows Newport needs more rentals.
Finally, a new road access is being approved for 633 Chepstow Road, including an associated off-road parking area. Construction may have started before formal approval.
