A petition with 4126 signatures was delivered to Newport City Council, urging them to keep Caerleon town hall and library open.

Around 200 people met with the council on February 3. The council will review community centers and libraries for the 2025/26 budget. Losing the town hall would hurt the community, as it helps with childcare, social time, and learning.
Because of this plan, people created both a paper and an online petition. On February 7, Steve Cocks and Jason Hughes invited Batrouni to Caerleon to receive the petition.
Jason Hughes shared that many residents felt strongly and wanted Batrouni to see the Caerleon Cherubs Playgroup, which uses the town hall. Hughes felt good that Batrouni listened and thinks the budget process is a real discussion.
Steve Cocks stated that the town hall and library are central. Many groups use the town hall, some providing support for those in need; without it, these activities cannot happen. The library helps kids love books and gives computer access to locals.
The local councillors organized a public meeting attended by about 200 locals. Some think it was Caerleon’s biggest meeting ever. An NCC spokesperson said they will consider all views before the final choices next week.
