A Newport couple was scammed out of thousands by fraudsters posing as police officers investigating a crime.

The crooks acted like police officers. They said the couple was a fraud victim, claiming someone tried to steal money from their account. Withdrawing money would help their investigation, they said. Taking out cash was the safest option, they claimed. Then, the crooks picked it up.
