Newport tops Wales in crime with 121 incidents per 1,000 people. Residents express worry about antisocial behavior.

The average crime rate for Wales is lower; it’s about 85 crimes per 1,000 people. So, these cities are above average. People in Newport aren’t surprised by the news. They mentioned lots of antisocial behavior downtown. Some even fear going outside.
Newport had the highest crime rate before too. Back in 2023, it was worse. They reported 148 crimes per 1,000 that year. This made Newport the most dangerous town in Wales then.
Violent and sexual offenses were very common. They had 6,466 cases in 2023. Antisocial behavior and burglary are also problems. In January 2024, there were 292 and 53 cases respectively for antisocial behavior and burglary.
Police forces in England and Wales dealt with many crimes. They recorded over five million, not counting fraud. This was up to September 2024. Welsh police forces recorded 261,000 of those crimes, including Gwent, South Wales, Dyfed-Powys and North Wales Police.
The data show an increase in some crimes. Theft, knife crime, robbery, and violence are up. Be careful out there! However, computer misuse crimes went down a bit. So, some things are getting slightly better.
