Akif Hussain, 21, ran from police and admitted to drug supply charges after asking about his potential sentence.

The police chased the 21-year-old in Rogerstone. He threw away a bag of the Class B drug then. A police dog found over 130g of cannabis. The prosecutor said the drugs were worth £660 to £1,320.
Police also found £250. They discovered drug messages on his phone. Hussain didn’t comment in the police interview. Later, he asked police about jail time.
He wanted their opinion on the likely sentence. Hussain admitted to drug supply charges. The crimes occurred between December and January. He broke a prior community order.
The prior order involved a weapon and cannabis. His lawyer asked for leniency because of his age. She cited his guilty pleas. She said Hussain has a job and stable housing.
The judge agreed to suspend Hussain’s prison term. The judge sentenced him to eight months, suspended for 18 months. Hussain must do 200 hours of unpaid work. He also needs 15 days of rehab.
Hussain must pay £500 towards prosecution costs. He also owes a £187 victim surcharge.
