New leisure centre prioritizes foot & bike access. Safety concerns raised about nearby road crossings for young people.

Enea thinks parking is lacking at the site. He says the centre will attract many young people. Kids and teens might cross the busy Usk Way road. This concerns him because of safety fears.
Newport Council responded to Enea’s information request. They stated that Usk Way has pedestrian crossings. These crossings connect the site to car parks. The crossings also connect to the bus station. Usk Way has three crossings on one section. It’s the area between two bridges. These are Newport City Foot Bridge and George Street Bridge.
The council says several public car parks are nearby. They are a short walk from the new centre. It’s also near public transit. The centre has easy access to the river walkway. People can travel on foot or by bike. The leisure centre will be close by. It is about 300 metres from two car parks. These car parks serve Friar’s Walk and Kingsway.
Newport bus station is about 500 metres away. The walkway is beside the Usk river. This path works for walking and biking. The leisure centre will be on the riverfront. Wynne Construction took over the centre project in November.
The leisure centre will have a cool leisure pool. It includes a lazy river and slides. It also has play equipment for kids. The centre is a community space. People can enjoy many activities there. They can do exercise classes and swim in the leisure pool.
Kids can have parties there too. The centre will have a café overlooking the river. Friends can meet there.
