Newport police officers seized drugs today. They executed a warrant in the Gaer area.

Around 7 AM, officers entered a Gaer Vale Avenue home. They found bags of class A drugs there and also seized drug tools and phones.

Police detained an 18-year-old Newport man who may have planned to sell the class A drugs. He will voluntarily answer questions under caution.

Sergeant Paul Turner spoke about the warrant and said tips from the public help them. Investigation work also plays a key role.

The police removed class A drugs from the streets, believing the drugs were crack cocaine. This protects our communities.

Turner said the public gives vital information, and sharing drug crime concerns helps them plan operations. Even small details can assist.
