The Newry, Mourne and Down Council starts a new plan. They call it “Make it Local.” It wants people to explore local stores. The goal is to help the community and economy thrive.

“Make it Local” builds on past projects that improved local areas. Funding came from different departments working with the Newry, Mourne and Down Council.

The campaign launched on March 3. It shows the faces of local business owners with the slogan “There’s Lots to Love when you… #ShopLocal.”

The message highlights small business variety and improvements to towns and villages. They hope people will rediscover and appreciate local places.

The plan uses digital, print, and social media to promote local businesses. Towns like Annalong, Dundrum, Hilltown, Killyleagh, and Meigh are included. They’ll also focus on Newtownhamilton, Strangford, Bessbrook, Castlewellan, Saintfield, and Rostrevor.

Councillor Pete Byrne spoke about the plan, saying it helps revitalize towns and supports communities. It aims to create viable towns that meet local needs, he said.

He explained that upgrades improved the villages, making them nicer for everyone. Shoppers and visitors will like them more, and new businesses may invest there now. Shopping local strengthens villages and enhances life for all residents. He says there is “Lots to Love.”

The Council thanks the businesses that joined the campaign.
