The council received over £56m for road upkeep. This came from the Labour government. It’s £15m more than they expected.

The council will use about £1.7m for potholes, spending the money on repairs that includes patching work. The rest will prevent new potholes. Other repairs should help prevent potholes. This includes surface work and resurfacing.

Fenland highway recycling will occur too, as bridges and drainage will also undergo repair. Since 2022, drivers sued Norfolk County Council. Over 1,270 people made claims and about a fifth received payouts. The council admitted responsibility in those cases.

Pothole reports rose by 63% this past year, going from 9,740 to 15,910. The council claims this isn’t underinvestment. Graham Plant said they ranked first. They topped 28 similar councils in a survey where people rated roads and transport.

Norfolk had the highest satisfaction rate and this is out of comparable councils. It’s the second year in a row; they earned a score of 49. The average score was 44.

Council leaders will spend £13.3m on roads, hoping this prevents new holes forming. You can report road problems online at norfolk.gov.uk/highwaysproblem. This excludes the A47 or A11 roads.
