Norfolk has extra hazardous waste events this spring. These are besides the usual autumn events. They happen at seven recycling centers.

These days let you drop off tricky waste, like paint, weed killer, and bleach. Regular trash days don’t take these items.

Past events had long, annoying lines. So, things are changing this year and you now book a time slot to visit, using the council’s system from November.

Bookings open a week before each event. The events happen in April and May. If you don’t bring hazardous waste, then book another site on those dates.

James Bensly, in charge of environment and waste, spoke about these events, saying they are very popular.

The booking system will cut down waits and manage site traffic, so lines will be shorter. The council set aside £250,000 for these extra days. However, they also cut £2 million from homelessness support.

Steve Morphew commented on this, feeling uneasy about this funding trade-off.

Here are the dates for the waste events. King’s Lynn has events on April 4 and 5. Dereham’s dates are April 11 and 12. Thetford will have events April 25 and 26.

Norwich North’s events take place May 2 and 3. Hempton’s dates are May 9 and 10. Caister’s events occur May 16 and 17. Finally, Norwich South is May 23 and 24.
