Ten businesses in the North East received low hygiene ratings, signaling a need for urgent improvements.
Every UK place serving food gets a hygiene rating. This includes shops, restaurants, hospitals, and care homes. Most places in the North East and North Yorkshire score well, usually getting a three or higher. Still, some spots need “urgent” or “major” help.
A zero rating means urgent fixes are a must. One means major fixes are needed soon. Two means some improvement is necessary. Three means standards are generally okay. Four means hygiene standards are good overall. A five rating means standards are very good.
These ratings are from recent inspections from the last couple months. The Food Standards Agency published them. Here are some takeaways with low ratings. Siam Supreme in Newcastle got zero stars after a January 31 visit. Pasha Lounge, also in Newcastle, got zero stars after January 28.
Alhambra Curry House in Stockton got one star after an inspection on January 8. Kwan’s New Golden City in Hebburn got one too, after being checked on January 24. The Pans in Seaton Sluice got one star January 23.
Alnwick Flame in Alnwick got one star on January 20. Q’Kurdi Express in Berwick got one on January 14. Fryday in Seghill got one star January 8. Katie’s Kitchen, a mobile caterer, got one star after being inspected January 8. Pizza & Co in Newcastle got one star after January 22.
