Councillors fear North Somerset won’t meet its housing target of 23,895 homes by 2040 due to labor shortages after Brexit.

The council is looking at Nailsea and Backwell. They might use green belt land near Long Ashton. Building all these homes will be hard. There might not be enough construction workers.
One council member, Mark Canniford, spoke about this. He said Brexit made it harder to find workers. Big projects nearby also need workers. Gravity and Hinkley Point C compete for staff. He admits meeting the target is very difficult.
The government wants 1.5 million UK homes built soon. A construction group says they lack workers. They stated the sector needs more people.
The council asked for feedback on housing plans. You could share your thoughts until March 21st. Four public events happened where people could ask questions. They took place in several locations.
The first event was February 26th in Long Ashton. It occurred at the Jubilee Pavillion . People could attend from 3 to 6 pm.
The second event was March 5th in Weston-super-Mare. It was held at the Town Hall library. The hours were also 3 to 6 pm.
A Nailsea event happened March 7th. People met at the United Reform Church Hall. The time, again, was 3 to 6 pm.
Finally, Backwell had an event on March 10th. It was at the WI Hall. The time was 3 to 6 pm, like the others.
