The North Wales Music Cooperative marks ten years. A celebration is planned at Hotel Wrexham, hosted by Wrexham Business Professionals.

Heather Powell leads the cooperative. She will discuss its success with business leaders. Budget cuts led to its creation after Ms. Powell and tutors lost their jobs in Denbighshire. They expanded into Wrexham in 2018.
The group works with many schools, benefiting over 100 primary and 18 high schools in Denbighshire and Wrexham. The cooperative employs over 70 freelance tutors who are also cooperative members.
“A Song for Wrexham” is one project they did that earned national TV coverage recently. Every Wrexham high school was invited to participate, and Ysgol Rhiwabon won the contest, receiving £1,000 in music gear.
ITV Wales filmed the video’s launch at that school. The music video has over 40,000 online views so far, and many news sites have also highlighted the project.
Ms. Powell stated the media exposure helped greatly, benefiting the cooperative, Wrexham, and its businesses. She described the response as very exciting, noting the video brought pride to Wrexham.
The cooperative faces funding problems often, and Ms. Powell spends much time seeking funds, which is now a normal part of her work. You can attend the Wrexham meeting for free.
Refreshments start at 8:30 am, and the event ends at 10:15 am. They planned a concert for June 12 at St Asaph Cathedral to celebrate their ten years.
