Sites across Craven and Skipton are being assessed for potential housing and business use. The public will have their say later.

Another potential location is in Gargrave. It’s 70 acres by the A65. They are thinking about mixed-use development there. Also, Gargrave has a nine-acre site where sixty extra care units for older folks could go.
Other housing is planned for Chew Lane, and Neville House may also become housing. Sites across Craven are being looked at too. This includes West Marton, and Carleton. Also, Skipton, Glusburn, and Cowling are included. Cross Hills, Coniston Cold, and Hellifield are also on the list. You can add Wigglesworth and nearby areas.
The North Yorkshire Council posted a map showing all potential sites in the county. This is for the local plan, which decides where building can happen and covers the next 15 to 20 years.
Officials will check the sites now to see which ones work best. Then, the public can share their thoughts. The council says listing a site does not mean it will be chosen.
They are making a new local plan. People suggested sites for housing and jobs, and the early stages are assessment of current sites. Putting a site on the list does not mean approval.
They must decide on a growth plan. Plus, they must assess each site carefully. Preferred locations will only be identified after this process.
Comments are not being taken now, according to the council. Later, a full consultation happens where the public can give their views. More site work will happen before this stage. This will give a view if spots are likely be recommended, or spots will be rejected.
The government gave North Yorkshire a target. They need to build 4,077 houses each year, which is way more than before. Planners are using old local plans for now. These were created before the new authority in 2023.
