James Higgins died 16 days after a crash near Davenham. An inquest concluded the crash was unavoidable by a car driver.

An inquest took place at Cheshire Coroner’s Court. Mr. Higgins lived on Heber Walk. His crash involved a car near Davenham Bypass. Brick Kiln Lane and Jack Lane are also nearby.
Cheshire Police investigated the crash. The assistant coroner, Sarah Murphy, wrote a conclusion, stating the Mitsubishi Outlander driver could not avoid it.
Jacqueline Devonish, the senior coroner, read the written conclusion this week at a hearing.
Devonish said Mr. Higgins had a collision involving his motorbike and another vehicle when he turned from Jack Lane. The other driver tried to stop, applying the brakes, but could not avoid the crash. Mr. Higgins fell from his motorbike.
Mr. Higgins stayed in Leighton Hospital for sixteen days. Doctors treated broken ribs and a broken pelvis, and he had other internal injuries. His condition worsened, and he died the day after his 56th birthday.
CPR attempts did not work. Devonish announced the cause of death: Pneumonia, resulting from a pulmonary contusion caused by rib fractures from the collision.
Devonish expressed her sympathy to the family.
Coroners can make written conclusions in certain uncontested cases with no controversy since 2022. Instead of an inquest, the coroner reads the conclusion at a weekly hearing at the Cheshire Coroner’s Court.
