Group needs bigger premises to continue making vital items, host workshops, and support volunteers across the UK.

Caroline lives in Basingstoke and has always loved crafts. She wanted to help during lockdown using her skills.
The community helped after Caroline’s Facebook post. People made scrubs, masks, and wash bags. These items helped hospital staff.
This wasn’t Caroline’s plan, as she had a massage business, fostered kids, and studied law. Stitchers happened by accident during her Master’s degree; now, it is her full-time job. The group expanded rapidly, and people across the UK joined in.
They used skills like sewing and knitting, and made various needed items. Oakley Stitchers now makes knitted knockers, which are breast prosthetics made of yarn. They also make gowns for stillborn babies and produce drain bag covers.
Caroline is grateful for the support, as the group helps many people. It supports them both locally and nationwide.
The group’s current space is not ideal, they rent an office now, as Caroline’s house became too small. Storage space runs out quickly, and they must refuse good donations; they need more room.
A dedicated space would help. They could offer workshops there and it would be a warm, helpful place. They work with local groups, and vulnerable people can join. Social prescribers help too, and everyone can get involved if desired.
Many stitchers gained confidence. They now help with admin tasks, and Caroline wants to encourage this growth.
