My friend Barrie owns a pub. It’s in Bank Street and is called The Swan. It’s a special, old building. He plans to open a fancy restaurant there. It will be called Ocean’s Braintree.

Barrie will spend a lot on fixing it up. He estimates it will cost £1.5 to £2 million. Ocean Chapman is helping him. Ocean is the executive consultant chef. The building needs work, Barrie said.

He sent plans to the council in December. The building has holes from neglect. Barrie said the roof is falling apart. One side caved in and it leaks.

He said the council wasn’t helping him. He thought he might just abandon the project. The council stated they were helping him for months. Now, the council approved his plans.

Barrie is very happy about that. He is checking the approval conditions closely. Then they can start working soon. He wants to fix many things at the pub.

They want to widen the entrance with doors. They will widen the courtyard space as well. They also plan to add a kitchen inside. Plus, they will replace a staircase. A disabled toilet is part of the plan, too.

They will remove one bathroom and add smaller ones. They plan to install a new staircase, too. This staircase leads to the function room. They will do general repairs next. They are arranging lights and adding cameras. The project must start within three years.
