A police officer aided a burglar by removing his tag, engaging in secret relations, and now faces jail for misusing power.

She got 18 months in jail. The charge was misusing her police powers, and police said her actions were really bad. They could have let him commit more crimes.
Conneely worked at Bedfordshire Police, managing offenders there. They found messages between her and the burglar. She took off his tag last April, after which he visited her home in secret.
Conneely checked systems afterward to make sure they weren’t tracked. They also spent a night in a Leeds hotel. She broke a law about police power abuse.
Conneely quit the police force after a hearing decided she did really wrong. They said she would’ve been fired anyway, and she’s now banned from police work.
The police chief spoke about it. He said her job was to manage offenders, using tags and other things to stop them from reoffending. He said she should not have done this. It put people at risk and she let down her coworkers.
He said she acted selfishly and knew what she was doing. He stated police have high standards, and people expect more from officers.
