Old Sarum Airfield Ltd runs the airfield. Wiltshire Council rejected their plans back in August. The company appealed that decision during October. A public inquiry started February 20 at Salisbury’s Red Lion Hotel. The schedule planned closing statements for February 28.

They planned two extra days for virtual meetings. Those meetings were set for next Tuesday and Wednesday. The inquiry now needs a third day next week.

Wiltshire Council and Old Sarum will speak on Tuesday. The meeting happens at the Guildhall, not online. The inquiry will discuss Section 106 on Wednesday. Third party comments will be addressed at the Guildhall. Both sides will give closing remarks next Friday.

This final meeting happens online. The Red Lion Hotel hosted a final session earlier. Barristers questioned Mr. Stratford, the appellant’s heritage witness there. Hangar 3’s condition was a key point.

The Grade II*-listed hangar dates to World War One. It partly collapsed last January. Hashi Mohamed spoke for Wiltshire Council. He called Hangar 3 “dead.”

Hashi asked Mr. Stratford who killed it. He wanted to know why it fell into disrepair. Mr. Stratford thinks the heritage benefits outweigh harm. Christopher Young represents Old Sarum.

He said they improved on a rejected 2015 plan. He says this site is special. It needs investment for its preservation. He said they worked with Historic England. They addressed impacts on the monument and area.
