Torben Hersborg, age 63, went to court. He admitted to spying on women. The court appearance happened via video link.

He watched students in London last December on December 10, 14, and 21. The court learned about these dates before. Someone saw his car near student housing and told police they saw a man in a balaclava. The court got this information, too.

A prosecutor named Varinder Hayre spoke and said the man took photos and videos. He targeted students in their housing on December 21. The person reporting the crime had seen him before, about four years ago, in the same car. He would roll up his window then.

The witness saw the car often recently, about five times in two weeks. He called police on December 10 and 14 too, but police did not come those times. He saw the man in a balaclava, laying in the car’s back with a camera pointed at the student housing.

Police came on December 21; Hersborg wore black gloves that day, and black bags lined his car seats. Police asked what he was doing, and Hersborg claimed he had drinks with friends. He said he felt faint, so he sat down, as the location was halfway home.

The officer did not see a balaclava. They searched Hersborg, finding a battery in his pocket and a camera and telescope in the car. The camera had images of women, one wearing only a T-shirt, one sitting in her room, and another seeming to be getting dressed.

The officer viewed just three videos then. Other videos could not be viewed, the court heard. Police searched Hersborg’s house next and seized a lot of digital devices there. Hersborg had famous clients, including Caroline Wozniacki and Anna Friel.

He said “I’m sorry” during questioning, but nothing else. The prosecutor also said police are still investigating him. The court learned devices still needed review. A judge asked why videos were not viewed, but the prosecutor could not comment on that.

Hard drives are with the police, and the download of data has not started. Adrian Eissa, Hersborg’s lawyer, spoke next and said the judge could sentence Hersborg now. Hersborg offered to help the police with their investigation, adding that the crimes happened close together.

The judge was concerned about the location, noting it was clearly student housing and this may have been happening longer, even though only three crimes were formally charged. The judge moved the case elsewhere; a crown court will sentence Hersborg later at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
