Blanchford & Co Ltd closed all four shops. The business was also known as Blanchford Building Supplies, and it had its main office in Headington, Oxford. They shut down on February 14, a Friday.

Three brothers started the business: Fred, Cecil, and Ronald Blanchford opened it in 1938.The company stayed independent its whole life.

Their first branch opened in the 1960s in Princess Risborough, Buckinghamshire. They also opened stores in Wallingford and Bicester, which helped serve Oxfordshire better.

About 80 people worked for Blanchford. The closures affect those employees directly, and many people are sad the company is gone now.

The store sold many different items, including plumbing, heating, kitchens, and bathrooms. They also sold timber, paint, tools, and plants, and served both regular people and companies.

People said the closure is a big loss. One person said their town lost a real asset, describing it as handy and a staple. It was called a great independent merchant.

They could not reach Blanchford for comments, and the reason for the closure remains unclear.
