Botley Road closed near the rail bridge in April 2023 as Network Rail upgrades Oxford station using £161 million. The road was initially slated to reopen by October 2024, but officials later said this wasn’t possible.

The rail minister announced bad news last month. Lord Hendy then said the road won’t reopen until August 2026.

Network Rail directors will lead information sessions at the King’s Centre on Osney Mead from 5pm to 6pm. Meeting dates are February 26, March 26, April 23, and May 21. You don’t need a ticket, and entry works first come, first served. Presentations will occur, and residents can ask questions afterwards.

Marcus Jones appreciates Oxford residents’ patience. He invites people to learn about the project’s progress and apologizes for project delays and problems. They now aim to open walkways in August 2025, with the road itself reopening in August 2026.

The project ultimately improves travel to Oxford. More trains will be able to run, and the station will become better. Accessibility and travel will vastly improve too, and pedestrian paths and cycleways will be wider.

Locals told Julian Le Vay the closure hurt them. Le Vay published their stories in “Network Hell,” highlighting the disruption caused. Oxford City Council has clarified that it cannot sue Network Rail on behalf of others.
